AGRICULTURE AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Today we are touching a very important topic  Agriculture and the Environment are inseparable to say the least, such is the strong connection between them one cant do without the other.  since time immemorial when man started gathering and hunting for food to this point of vast advanced agricultural technologies, man and agriculture have always been dependent  on the environment. Almost all human if not all human activities hinge on the environment be it agriculture , mining, construction the  list goes on as such in the process of achieving these economic benefits the environment is being hurt to some extent. In this post we are going to have  a glimpse of the relationship between the environment and  agriculture. put this behind your mind that this is an insight don't expect to much details but important points. Shifting Cultivation and Deforestation : These two  are just brothers, they normally go hand in hand, one gives birth to the other. Lets quickly recap what shifting

DESERTIFICATION , CLIMATE CHANGE AND BIODIVERSITY

This post is published to commemorate the World Environment Day 2020. By Abubakar Ali Gumel The theme for this years world environment day is " BIODIVERSITY "  so I sort to write on the topic and seeing desertification as one of the greatest environmental threat faced in  northern Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. Lets talk about desertification first, what is desertification?, How does is come about? . Desertification  or desert encroachment as its also known  according to NASA is land degradation in typically dry areas resulting from various factors including climatic variations and human activities. This is the most simple  definition of desertification. The primary factor leading desertification is deforestation. Deforestation is the indiscriminate cutting down of trees. Desertification is a very big threat to environmental sustainability in so many places around the globe. Huge amount of forest and vegetation cover are been lost to  desert encroachment around the world

PLANT EARTH: HOW MAN HAS TEMPERED WITH NATURE AND SOLUTIONS TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABILITY

By Zainab Ruba  Planet Earth is the third planet from the sun and the only astronomical object known to habor life.   The most important advantages of earth to man is that it has liquid water and plate tectonics but it's most special feature might just be us (man) but yet man tempers with nature. Man has tempered with nature in so many ways and has destroyed a tenth of the earth's wilderness in 25yrs and there may be none left  within a century if trends continue, according to an authorative new study .And also the changes to biophysical environments and ecosystems , biodiversity and natural resources caused directly or indirectly by humans, including global warming caused by increased Concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere mainly from human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation and farming. Environmental degradation caused by overpopulation, deforestation , lack of education and so on. Mass extinction is mostly caused by climate change

THE EARTH

By Halimah Abdullahi Damare The Earth is our home. A place where plants and animals live. Each in it's own natural habitat The living and non living organisms interact to make the ecosystem balanced. But as a result of urbanization and industrialization, man has tempered with the nature. The forest being the habitat of wildlife has been destroyed by man. Exploitation of plenty of the forest resources with replacement of few or none results to improper interaction of plants and animals. Dumping of industrial waste into the river, affect the aquatic organisms.  The natural air flowing out of the forest to produce oxygen, The water flowing into the river and producing a conducive environment to the aquatics, These forests are no more what they used to be. Many species of plants and animals have become extinct, some vulnerable and some nearly extinct. The earth is polluted by plastic that is used by human The earth climate has changed. Leading to natura

THE EARTH

By Ibirogba Mathew The solar system consist if the sun and many unknown planets but only nine planets are known for now for which the earth is one of them. The earth is the only planets which support the existence of plants and animals. It has one satellite called the moon which revolves eastwards around the earth once in every twenty seven days. It takes the earth 365A days (A year) to complete it orbits. The distance between the sun and the earth is 148,800,000 km. The diameter of 12,762km and the distance between the earth and the moon is 384,629km. the earth is not flat but has a spherical shape, it is described as Geoid {The earth shape}. The major spheres of the earth include; Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere, Biosphere. In this universe, the earth is the most precious thing to have oxygen and water, essential to life. Due to various human wrong practices, the natural resources found on Earth are deteriorating day by day. It endangers life on earth. Du

A DEGRADING NIGERIAN ENVIRONMENT

By Emmanuel Olurunfemi A degrading Nigeria's environment and the pathways to sustainability Nigeria's environment is as diverse and rich as its people. From its arable land in the north to rich swamp in the south to rain forests in the west and to deep soils in the east; Nigeria expresses an abundance of natural endowment. The number of natural resources in Nigeria is beyond average when compared with other nations of the world. However in Nigeria just like most nations of the world, humans activities are disrupting and degrading the planet. In Nigeria, economic-motivated actions are the mother of man's disruption of its environment. And to meet the massive development demands like poverty alleviation and infrastructure development, its environment suffers heavily.  Nigeria's environment and economic activities The extent to which man's economic activities have tampered with Nigeria's environment is huge and needs conscious redirection. GREEN LIFESTYLE

By Abubakar Ali Gumel Every  business can be a green business regardless of its stature or whether you run a large company or you own a small outlet such as a shop you have a significant role to play in ensuring that  our environment is kept safe. Everyone has to be responsible for what he does to our environment to  ensure  we are achieving the primary sustainable  goals. Part of achieving the  sustainable development goals involves achieving a sound healthy environment  and this can be achieved by keeping the earth green. Naturally it is assumed that the environment is green in nature because most of the plant species come in green. we all love to see a large green landscape over a large expanse of field. Every passing day we are losing these lovely green landscapes to agriculture, industries , housing etc which are all human activities. These human actions are causing changes to the earth systems which in return are having effects on lives and properties. How do we curtail these
