Globally,
we have lots and loads of environmental problem that need to be solved, but
unfortunately are overlooked and neglected. These problems are worth and
serious enough to grab our attention. Solving these problems will go a long way
in dealing with most of environmental problems that have been
pulling us backward all these years.
Most
of these problems are related to the fact that the world and global population
is increasing as the days pass by and number of resources to cater for this
number is diminishing, as there is a lot of pressure on them and ultimately
leading to all these environmental problems most notably increase in number of
crimes In our societies.
Some
of these problems include:
DEFORESTATION: This has become the order of the day in most
African countries, cutting down of trees on daily bases for fire wood as source
of fuel is one and most common problem in Africa. A good number of Nigerians today use
fire wood as source of fuel. Not that we only cut trees, sadly we
do not plant any. Ideally if you are responsible for cutting a single tree then make
sure you plant at least two more. A single tree can save hundreds of hectares
from desert encroachment. So please let’s cut less and plant more.
URBANIZATION: Another issue of great concern is the
rate of global urbanization. The number of people migrating to urban centers is
so outrageous because of the poor condition and standard of rural communities.
Living conditions in rural areas is always substandard which prompts people to
flow into urban areas and lots of problems come with this such as overcrowding,
crime etc.
POLLUTION: Everywhere you look at is polluted the waters
are polluted, the air is not safe anymore, the land on which we live are all in
bad shape. Industrialization and agricultural revolution have brought about
70-80 percent of global pollution sources and the rate at which these pollution
problems are increasing is alarming and is growing each day and we are not
finding solutions. We need to think and act fast, let’s say no to environmental
pollution.
OVERPOPULATION: Population is required for development of any
nation, but when the population outgrows the available resources, and then there
is a problem. For people to live harmoniously,
there has to be equitable distribution of resources, but when the population is
more than the available resources then surely there must be conflicts.
